Meet the Beyond Barriers Team

Blair Ferguson, President

Blair is co-founder and President of Beyond Barriers. He is one of the pioneers in the field of home accessibility remodeling and construction. Blair is a licensed contractor in both Minnesota and Wisconsin and holds several industry designations including Minnesota Accessibility Specialist, Minnesota Limited Master Elevator Constructor, Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) and Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC). He is also factory trained and certified in the installation and service of all the adaptive equipment that we carry. Prior to founding Beyond Barriers, Blair worked as a 911 and Critical Care Paramedic in the Twin Cities area.

Blair’s unique combination of medical and contracting backgrounds along with his extensive experience with home medical and durable medical equipment have given him a vast wealth of knowledge that allows him to provide his clients with the right solution to fit their needs.

Brian Burfield, Executive Vice President

Brian co-founded AIP Resources and is a co-owner of Beyond Barriers. As a licensed attorney for over 23 years, Brian has extensive experience in the areas of government, elder care, estate, business, and real estate law. As the Executive Vice President of Beyond Barriers, Brian provides the leadership to ensure that our company has the proper operational, administrative and financial controls, as well as the right people and systems in place, to serve our customers effectively and operate efficiently.

In addition to his day-to-day management activities, Brian acts as our primary “community cares” liaison, working closely and directly with customers, caseworkers, and business partners to resolve any issues that may arise. His vision for Beyond Barriers is simple: “Treat every customer as if they were your only customer and every home as if it were your own.”  Brian is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D.) and Towson University (B.S. – Finance and Economics).

Nancy Ferguson

Nancy co-founded and served as Vice President of Beyond Barriers from its inception until its partnership with AIP Resources. Prior to founding Beyond Barriers, Nancy worked as a Materials Manager at a local Metro hospital. Nancy was responsible for overseeing the purchasing, ordering, inventory and distribution of all medical and surgical equipment needed in the facility along with overseeing her staff. Nancy currently assists with day to day operations, Human Resources and basic accounting for Beyond Barriers.


The AIP Resources Team

John R. Burfield, President

John co-founded AIP Resources and has served as its President since its inception in 2009 and also serves as Vice President of Beyond Barriers. He is a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) and Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC).

John recently earned an Executive Certificate in Home Modification from the University of Southern California Davis School of Gerontology and the National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification.

Prior to founding AIP, John spent several years as a teacher in Chicago area schools. He is a graduate of DePaul University (M.Ed.) and McDaniel College (B.A.).

Timothy L. Burfield, Chairman

Tim co-founded AIP Resources with his son John and brother Brian, as his latest endeavor in a healthcare business career spanning over 35 years. He is a co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Healthcare Group Equity, LLC. Tim also co-founded and is a member of Rx HealthConnect, LLC, a innovative pharmacy services company on the forefront of transforming population healthcare.

Tim was co-founder and Chairman of Assistive Technology Group, Inc., which merged with United Seating and Mobility in 2013 to form Numotion, the country’s leading complex rehab equipment company.

Prior to ATG, Tim co-founded and was Chief Executive Officer of American Medserve Corporation, a specialized pharmacy serving the long term care market.

Previously, Tim was the Chief Executive Officer of Abbey Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. and served in a variety of executive positions with Abbey Healthcare Group, Inc. (a predecessor of Apria Healthcare), the Medical Services Company of ARA Services and American Hospital Supply Corporation.

Tim is a graduate of Villanova University (B.A.).
